Learning outcomes                    : At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
                                                  i.   Identify the symbols of various components in a simple                                                        electric circuit.                                        
                                                 ii.   Draw circuit diagrams.
                                                 iii.  Identify the difference in the arrangement of bulbs in                                                       series and parallel circuits.
                                                 iv.   Build series and parallel circuit.
                                                  v.   Compare the brightness of bulbs in a series and a                                                        parallel circuit.
Pre-requisite knowledge             : Pupils have known that:
                                                  i. Many appliances in our home and schools use electricity.
                                                  ii. Have experienced of using one or two types of electrical                                                       appliances which involve electric circuits.
Behavioral objectives                : At the end of the lesson, the pupils will be able to:
                                    i. State at least three components of electric circuit and  its                                                                                symbols correctly.
                                      ii. Draw both simple electric circuits using the appropriate                                                                                      symbol correctly.
                                     iii. State at least two differences between series circuit and                                                                                    parallel circuit correctly.

| Orientation/ Engage (5 minutes) | Set Induction | Teacher show a box (contain components of   electric circuit). Teacher will walk around the class and choose a   few pupils to hold the box (but not to open it) and asks them to guess the   content of the box.  Teacher will also   ask the whole class the same question. Script: Can you guess what is inside the box? | Eliciting ideas (15 minutes) | Electric circuit: Series circuit and parallel circuit Get to know various components in a simple   electric circuit. Understanding a series circuit and a parallel   circuit. | Teacher introduces pupils to electric circuit and   its components.  Teacher will draw   symbols on the white board and ask pupils to guess which electric component   represented by the symbol. Components: Bulb, connecting wire, bulb,                        switch. Based on the activity where pupils get to know   various components in a simple electric circuit, teacher will ask pupils to   draw simple series circuit and parallel circuit based on their previous   knowledge and imagination. Teacher will ask pupils to volunteer/ pick them   randomly for this activity. Teacher will trigger pupils mind with  questions such as: Scripts: 1. Do you think the arrangement of bulb have       effect   on the brightness of the bulb? Why? 2. What will happen if one of the bulb is        removed? Will it effect on the brightness of      the   other bulbs? Why? |  Any student who is willing to try answering any   question will be given a star as collected points for his/her group. Pupils will try to draw a simple electric circuit   based on the teacher instruction. | Restructuring ideas (20 minutes) | Group activities: Teacher will prepare batteries, bulbs, switch and   connecting wires for pupils to build series and parallel circuits. Pupils take turn to use material prepared by the   teacher. Pupils will build a simple electric circuit. Pupils draw circuit diagrams of series and   parallel circuits. Pupils will study the relationship between types   of circuit and the brightness of a bulb. When comparing the brightness of the bulbs in   series or parallel circuit the number of batteries and bulbs are the same. Answering worksheet. Discussing answers for the worksheet. | Scripts: Form your own group of five. Group will run activities according to the   instructions given in the worksheet. Each group is required to answer questions in a   given worksheet. Draw basic diagram of simple electric circuit   both series and parallel.   | Pupils are divided into group of five and will   take turn to use materials prepared by the teacher and run activities   according to the worksheet given. Each group is required to build electric circuit   by following the instruction given. Working in groups, pupils will answer questions   by investigating their electric circuit. Pupils will still be given stars based on the   teacher observation on the group teamwork and noble values.  But stars will be deducted if any members   of groups happen to be misbehaved. | Teaching aids: Batteries Connecting wires Switch Bulbs Worksheet  Stars SPS: Experimenting Observing Values: Being honest and accurate in recording and   validating data. | Application of ideas (15 minutes)  | Group activities: Inventing “Miner’s lamp”. Group presentation. | Teacher will give instruction on what task need   to be done by pupils. Teacher will ask upon the group representative to   present the group invention in front of the class. | Pupils will invent a device called “Miner’s Lamp”   using either one of the simple electric circuit that they have learn.
